We crossed from Newfoundland to Red Bay, Labrador. Red Bay was a Basque whaling port in the 1500s, and has a nice museum regarding a wreck from 1565. It is worth looking up in Wikipedia. The next day we sailed to Battle Harbour, Labrador, and yesterday to Fox Harbour, where I am stealing wifi from the local health clinic.
Battle Harbour was the center of Labrador fishing from the 1700s and active up in the 20th century for cod. It has been preserved with the help of government grants and a non-profit organization. There is a ferry from Mary's Harbour, bringing a modest number of tourists traveling by car or camper up the coast of Labrador.
